TECHNIQUES
At BTP Aquaforjas, we have a comprehensive system for managing technical losses in aqueducts. We achieved this through our partnership with the Mexican company 4SAFE SOLUTIONS, which provides us with two technologies that allow us to detect pipes, buried structures, and anomalous areas in the subsoil. These are effective tools for identifying water leaks and mapping underground infrastructure.
The second technology is the Chaser XR (IDS GeoRadar): An advanced dual-frequency (80 MHz – 1500 MHz) GPR system with high resolution and depth. It allows for extensive scans with GNSS integration and the generation of 3D models of underground networks.
The first technology is GeoStream EM (Electromagnetic Network Mapping): It uses induced electromagnetic fields to measure ground conductivity. It detects variations associated with humidity or saturation due to leaks. It is useful for rapid mapping of large areas and initial detection of zones with water loss.
With this we can deliver detailed plans, high-definition radargrams and diagnostic reports for preventive or corrective maintenance.
The latest technology is Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR): It emits electromagnetic waves into the subsurface and records their reflections. This allows for the location of metallic and plastic pipes, cavities, areas saturated by leaks, and changes in material. Its deliverables include radar profiles (radargrams), XY-Z depth plans, 3D models, and anomaly reports with georeferenced coordinates.
We have established a strategic alliance with Aganova, a leading Spanish company founded in 2008, to offer water utilities an innovative, precise, and cost-effective solution through various in-line technologies. These consist of two different intelligent systems, Nautilus and Jabega, which allow for the assessment of the condition of pipes in service and the detection of leaks.
Nautilus System:
The Nautilus System is a wireless, neutrally buoyant, free-floating acoustic technology designed for detecting and locating leaks and air pockets in pipes with diameters greater than 250 millimeters. It consists of a 70-millimeter sphere that is inserted into the pipe and floats freely, propelled by the water flow. The sphere captures and stores all acoustic information from inside the pipe. This data is downloaded and analyzed using software developed by Aganova. The data analysis generates a report that identifies and details all leaks, air pockets, and anomalies found, along with their exact location.
Advantages
✅Interior Navigation:
The sphere moves freely within the pipe, propelled by the water flow, allowing for the inspection of pipes made of any material and at any depth. The sphere can navigate vertically.
✅Small leak detection:
The sphere captures leak sounds from very close to their point of emission and can therefore detect very small leaks, down to 0.005 liters per second.
✅Precision
The Nautilus System's data analysis procedure provides accurate leak location results. With the appropriate parameters for speed, planes, and synchronization points, the system delivers results pinpointing the exact location.
✅Without interruption of service
The inspection work is carried out with the pipeline in service and under pressure.
✅Long distances for inspection
It can inspect up to 35 kilometers in a single insertion.
- Neutral buoyancy
- Sphere tracking
- Applicable in a wide range of situations
Applications
💧 Drinking water: Facilitates planning for pipe replacement and prevents failures.
🚰 Wastewater: Reduce environmental and legal risks by detecting invisible leaks.
With ASTERRA MasterPlan, pipeline management is more precise, efficient, and sustainable.

Nemo Platform:
Nemo is a digital platform developed by Aganova for the practical and effective monitoring of leak detection projects in pipelines. It allows for comprehensive project tracking during the planning, execution, inspection, and analysis phases, documenting all network information, sections, project sequencing, and required resources. The data obtained is analyzed and interpreted in a simple and user-friendly way for the client. Nemo offers technicians and managers access to the incident history from a single workspace, enabling them to plan actions based on the performance evolution of different assets.
